MY PERSONAL STORY
Digestive enzymes have made a world of difference for me. Before I started taking them with every meal, I suffered from gas and bloating. I also experienced general intestinal discomfort after I had eaten a meal or any food. I do not have that problem anymore, and if I do, I just take more enzymes.
I have been to see many different doctors or health practitioners over the years. Not one of them mentioned how important enzyme supplements are. That is until I met a functional practitioner. She explained the purpose of the enzymes and how they support my intestinal health. She also explained that if you don’t have a gallbladder, like me, you lack certain enzymes. As a result, your body is unable to break down your food properly. If your gallbladder is sluggish, the same issue occurs. Your poorly digested food will end up sitting in your colon. That’s not what I wanted, especially being diagnosed with colon cancer! (1)

DIGESTIVE ENZYME BENEFITS
You don’t need to have a gallbladder issue to benefit from using digestive enzymes. They help the body in so many ways. I would highly suggest for you to read the book “The Healing Power Of Enzymes” by Dr. DicQie Fuller. She can explain in far greater detail how amazing they are to your well-being. Here are a few points she makes in her book:
1 – Enzymes are necessary in every chemical reaction that occurs in the body
2 – All organs, tissues, and 100 trillion cells in the body depend upon enzymes.
3 – Co-enzymes (vitamins & minerals) require enzymes to be absorbed and used by the cell
4 – Enzyme utilization of co-enzymes creates 100,000 chemical reactions every second for metabolism. This allows us to see, hear, feel, move, and think.

WHAT ARE DIGESTIVE ENZYMES?
Enzymes are specialized proteins that act as catalysts. They are made up of amino acids. There are thousands of enzymes in nature. Here are just some of the enzymes that are needed to digest our foods properly. Phytase, Amylase, Alpha-galactosidase, Glucoamylase, Pectinase, Lipase, Lactase, Protease, Cellulase, Hemicellulase, Invertase, Diastase, Macerase, Beta-glucanase.
Digestive enzymes are natural occurring proteins that your body makes to break down food. Our bodies naturally produce these digestive enzymes. Some factors can contribute to poor digestion of foods. These include genetics, diet, drugs, environmental factors, and disease. (2)
Most nutritional digestive enzymes are derived from various strains of non-toxic fungi. The pharmaceutical and food industries have studied the organisms excessively. These studies were done to confirm their safe use in the production of enzymes, amino acids, and other compounds.

MY SUGGESTIONS
I would suggest using a quality supplement from a company with minimal “other ingredients.” One that guarantees the purity of a product. And one that lists and guarantees the potency or activity of the enzymes. They should be capable of providing a Certificate of Analysis as well.
If someone has a microbiome gut imbalance of any kind, enzymes support a healthy digestive balance. Things like antibiotic use, inflammatory bowel diseases, or fungal overgrowth, they all can upset your gut flora. Along with probiotics and prebiotics, enzymes help support your microbiome in a positive way. (3)
Generally, digestive enzymes are well tolerated. Still, if you are concerned about allergies or any interactions with medication, click HERE for more information on that. You should always speak with your health care provider before starting any new supplement.

Digestive enzymes have improved my daily gut performance, and it may improve yours as well. I can eat a greater variety of food. I don’t feel uncomfortable because I take the enzymes with each meal.
